Recently, the results of the National Unified Legal Profession Qualification Examination (hereinafter referred to as the “law examination”) were announced, and Pan Mingdian was the first visually impaired candidate to pass the law examination in Guangzhou. With a dream of being a lawyer, he received countless warm help along the way, and eventually his dream came true.
Ever since he could remember, Pan Mingdian's world was dark. After finishing elementary school in the blind school, he learned blind massage, 20 years have made a living in this way. 2016, he enrolled in adult higher education undergraduate, listening to the basic law class was clear and beautiful legal logic fascinated, and from then on planted the dream of lawyers.
The law examination is a necessary path to become a lawyer, difficult, low pass rate, for the visually impaired is even more difficult. In 2018, after confirming that he meets the conditions of the law examination, Pan Mingdiao began to prepare for the examination. Every day, he has to work over 12 hours in the massage parlor. When there are no guests, he picks up his cell phone and listens to the LSAT courses and textbooks, studying at least three or four hours a day.
The road to the LSAT is full of hurdles, the first of which is the textbook. There are no Braille versions of the textbooks, so the Guangzhou Hopwood Disability Public Welfare Innovation Center and the Braille Library of China sent out a call for volunteers to take pictures of the textbooks or scan them page by page, identify the text, and then proofread them word by word and send them to him. Students, doctors, housewives ......4 Over the past four years, more than a hundred volunteers across the country have compiled more than a dozen electronic version of the textbook, more than 2 million words.
And then the exam passes. Guangzhou Municipal Bureau of Justice set up an independent examination room for Pan Ming Trail, installing screen-reading software in the examination system, assisted by invigilators to read and type the questions, and giving careful help in every step. “Each eligible candidate has the right to participate in the examination on an equal basis, we will do our best to serve each candidate in need.” Wu Danli, deputy director of the Guangzhou Municipal Bureau of Justice's Lawyer Work Management Department, said.
The most difficult is the time barrier. Exam time is the same, but Pan Ming Trail to listen to the reading screen after oral answers, and then typed by others, the first two exams, many questions are not done. He thought of a mock exam. The Zhongshan Library of Guangdong Province provided him with a venue and volunteers. From March 2021 onwards, Pan Mingdiao took mock exams once or twice a week, and his time control became more and more precise. On the third exam, he successfully answered all the questions.
The results were announced, with 218 points for objective questions and 121 points for subjective questions, both passed with high scores! “I'm not fighting alone.” When announcing the happy news in the circle of friends, Pan Mingdiao deeply thanked the people who had helped him.
Things developed beyond expectations. In November last year, Guangzhou Jinpeng Law Firm contacted the first visually impaired café in Guangzhou founded by Guangzhou Hopwood Disability Public Welfare Innovation Center, hoping to hire a visually impaired barista, and Pan Mingtian became the first choice. After he passed the LSAT, the firm immediately agreed to hire him as a paralegal, responsible for answering the legal service hotline.
On January 24th, after signing the contract, Li Gang, the director of the law firm, held Pan's hands tightly: “I hope you can really become a qualified lawyer in the future.”
Touching the 37th floor window with his hand, Pan Mingdian seems to be able to see the opposite side of the Guangzhou Tower towering into the clouds. He said: “This is the best time, as long as you dare to try, there will be unlimited possibilities.”
